Farrell’s
Ever wonder what Brooklyn looked like in 1933? This landmark tavern will show you, because that’s the year—one year after the end of Prohibition—when its Irish-American bartenders first slid a beer across the long wooden bar beneath a pressed-tin ceiling. The bar, the ceiling, and the beer are still there. What’s changed? Unlike in the old days, now women can order their own “container” of suds at the bar. By legend, actress Shirley Maclaine was the woman to break the old men-only rule.
